Lockwood & Co. Celebration!

Bookaholic to bookaholic real quick - do you struggle with staying 100% dedicated to a series? I mean, you love everything about it but, for some reason, you push it to the side for a moment. But then it'll collect dust, you'll start forgetting details, the fandom/author/the book itself isn't that important anymore and well, you find another awesome series. Does anyone feel me here? Because I get you! It can be so hard to stay dedicated to a long series, especially if you read a lot of series a year. But Lockwood & Co. wasn't like that for me.

NOTE: This celebration post (which isn't sponsored by the publisher; I'm just promoting my love for this underrated series) for The Empty Grave will contain minor spoilers from the previous books. Read at your own risk! Thanks and enjoy.

"So, what's going on Anna? A celebration post? For what, this Lockwood & Co. series?" Bingo! Today, September 12th, the final book (The Empty Grave) in the middle-grade/YA series Lockwood & Co., will be out in the US. And I will cry because I love this series dearly. This celebration idea came from my Raven Cycle countdown that I had for the final book, The Raven King. But instead of counting down the days, I decided to do a huge roundup of Lockwood & Co. stuff. I'll be answering some fun questions and sharing fanart & moreeee. Are you ready? Well, let's go!

THE SERIES:

For fifty years, England has been affected by the dead but only the children can see them. The country has started "Psychic Investigations Agencies"; the big agencies are run by adults and children are hired to deal with the angry dead. Lockwood & Co. is a small agency set in London but its run by Anthony Lockwood, a teenager boy. He works along with George and Lucy and they deal with ghost cases all across London. The series follows their cases and friendship.

THE BREAKDOWN:

The Screaming Staircase (Book #1) is the beginning of Lockwood & Co. We meet our narrator, Lucy Carlyle, who is looking for a significant career in London. She gets tangled up in Lockwood and Co. and ends up working with them. We learn about the characters (I LOVE THEM ALL), terms and the atmosphere of the whole series. I gave this 5/5 stars.

The Whispering Skull (Book #2) is about the trio dealing with their biggest enemy, Quill Kipps. They start off working against him but then, Lockwood and Co. has to work with him on a dangerous case. And after, the trio find a (sassy) skull ... which sets off hidden truths and some secrets about each other and themselves. I gave this 5/5 stars.

The Hollow Boy (Book #3) is about a huge ghost outbreak in London. The dead are coming back faster and more violent; all agencies are working hard against this outbreak, especially Lockwood and Co. (they are sO tired). The team decides to hire an assistant, Holly, to help support the company. Holly's new arrival stirs up some jealousy. I gave this 4/5 stars.

The Creeping Shadow (Book #4) is my current read. All I know is Lucy has left Lockwood and Co. to work freestyle. This change sets a new groove between the team (i'm sad), but they need her one last time. And also, right now, Lucy is developing a secret concern about the biggest agency...

The Empty Grave (Book #5) is the final book in Lockwood and Co. All I know is this final book will give us the answer behind the ghost problem. And, hopefully the team is together again?! PLEASE.

THE QUESTIONS:

1. How did you find out about Lockwood & Co.?

I was recommended this series by a fellow librarian! I'm so glad she did; we now talk about the series all the time.

2. Have you read any other books by Jonathan Stroud? If so, which ones?

No, I haven't. But I'm interested in his books Buried Fire and The Leap!

3. Favorite main character? Why him/her/them?

I'm not sure why I gave myself this question? I mean, I love them all. But the orignal trio will always be my top favorite. And, out of the trio, I would pick Lockwood.

4. Favorite side character? Why him/her/them?

Probably Flo Bones. I've never read of a side character like Flo before; she's super unique.

5. Favorite setting/location?

Portland Row. It's the street where Lockwood and Co. is based. :,)

6. Favorite quote(s)?

*rolls up my sleeves* I'll give you four!

“Okay...' I hurried on. 'But why me?' 'You're a girl,' Lockwood called. 'Aren't you supposed to be more sensitive?' 'To emotions, yes. To nuances of human behavior. Not necessarily to secret passages in a wall.' 'Oh, it's much the same thing.”
― Jonathan Stroud, The Screaming Staircase

“Well, I make that one murder victim, one police interrogation and one conversation with a ghost,” George said. “Now that’s what I call a busy evening.” Lockwood nodded. “To think some people just watch television.”
― Jonathan Stroud, The Whispering Skull

“Ignoring the whispers of the skull, which kept suggesting different, unlikely kitchen utensils that could be used for murder, I sketched out a map of the room.”
― Jonathan Stroud, The Hollow Boy

“Making tea is a ritual that stops the world from falling in on you.”
― Jonathan Stroud, The Creeping Shadow

7. Favorite canon/non-canon relationship? Why that one?

Hmm I'll go with Lucy and Lockwood. I mean, they have a great dynamic to become a couple but I would be perfectly fine if they stayed friends.

8. UK or US covers?

UK ALL THE WAY. The US hardcover covers (the ones I read) are so dull; all they have are the ghost objects. Where the UK covers have their faces and awesome color schemes.

9. Which book is your favorite in the series?

Book 1, The Screaming Staircase. It was an amazing beginning for me.

10. Are you ready for The Empty Grave?

Ready for the end? No. But the tears? Yes.

THE FANDOM:

I still consider myself a part of this fandom even though I'm not that active anymore. I used to be very active on Tumblr with Lockwood and Co. but I deleted my Tumblr because I didn't need two blogs. But honestly? The last time I was on Tumblr, the fandom was SO NICE. When I first joined I made a "call out" post (because I was struggling to find people) and I got over 20 people saying "yo we're here!!" It's a small fandom but everyone is up to date and so great.

THE FANART:

These are some fanart pieces that I love so so so much and had to share.
