One of my friends, outside the internet, kept recommending this book to me. And I said "yeah thanks! *throws on top of my other recommendations* I totally forgot about this book until I saw that it was going to be a movie! Then I remembered how rude I was and checked out The Angel Experiment. Now, I see why my friend enjoyed this book. But me? Hmmm.
The Angel Experiment is the start of the story about Max and her flock. Yes, I said flock. You see, Max and her adopted siblings are what we like to call bird mutants. But why? Why were they created into these mutants? Who are their parents? Why are raging beasts chasing after them? So, to answer their questions, Max and her flock set off to find answers. I really think this book could be labeled as middle grade! The plot, the writing, and the characters were mature but I can also see why it is labeled as young adult. There were some violent fighting scenes and some really weird/creepy scenes that check off as YA. Anyway, let's talk a little negative. The pacing was all over the place. We start off fast, then slow, then it's really dragging but we pick up the pace but end too fast. And the writing reminds me so much of Rick Riordan. There is sarcastic dialogue and, like Rick, awesome/fun action scenes. Arghhhh! The pacing and writing didn't work for me.
Let's focus on my positive opinions! The plot was predictable but did catch my attention. And to be honest, the characters were the best thing in this book. My favorite characters were Max and Fang. In my opinion, they were more important than the others and more interesting. But anywho, Max was total kick-butt awesome and Fang is my smol dark cinnamon roll!! I have a hunch that he is the younger Azriel from ACOMAF BAM WHAT?! Sorry, we're getting off topic.
OVERALL
If you're looking for a thrilling, sarcastic adventure with similar writing like Rick Riordan and lovable characters then The Angel Experiment is your next read.

DeleteHaha this series. What to say about this series. When I was a little young one, I enjoyed the first several books in this series. But as it progressed and as I got older and as James Patterson started using ghost riders, I started hating this series and its shitiness. Now, I absolutely hate James Patterson.

DeleteI haven't read anything by James Patterson before, which is odd considering how popular he is. But since the movie for this is all over the place now I've definitely been interested! The pacing does sound really annoying, though. And although I hate that the writing is so similar to Rick Riordan's, any sarcastic, funny yet intense adventures are my favorite kind. Awesome review, Anna!
